Warning signs
Wild animals
What does this sign mean?
The deer symbol warns that wild animals may be on or crossing the road ahead. It is used near forests, deer parks and open country, and the risk is greatest around dawn and dusk when animals move between feeding grounds. Slow down, be ready to stop, and remember that where one animal crosses others usually follow, so do not accelerate as soon as the first is clear. Braking in a straight line is safer than swerving, and theory test questions on animal hazards are built around exactly that judgement.
