Warning signs

Two-way traffic straight ahead

What does this sign mean?

The two vertical arrows warn that a one-way section or a dual carriageway is about to become an ordinary two-way road. The change usually happens at the end of a bypass or where a dual carriageway drops to a single carriageway, and drivers who have grown used to having the whole road to themselves are the ones caught out. Move back to the left-hand side, drop your speed and abandon any overtake you have not yet completed, because oncoming traffic can now be there. In the theory test it is often set against the dual carriageway ends sign, which shows the same idea with a physical central island.
