Crossroads

What does this sign mean?

The plain cross symbol warns of a crossroads ahead where side roads join from both sides at the same point. Traffic can emerge from the left or the right and can also cross straight over your path, so the hazard is larger than a single side turning. Ease off, scan both side roads and be ready for a driver who has misjudged the gap. In the theory test this sign is contrasted with the staggered junction sign and with unmarked crossroads, where nobody has priority.
