Staggered junction

Warning signs

Staggered junction

What does this sign mean?

Two side roads join from opposite sides but are offset from each other rather than forming a straight crossroads. The staggered layout means traffic emerging from one side may need to cross your path to reach the other, so vehicles can appear from either direction in quick succession. Slow down, cover the brake and look right and left in turn as you pass each arm of the junction. Learners often confuse it with the crossroads warning sign, so remember that the crossbar on the staggered sign does not line up.
