Side winds

What does this sign mean?

The windsock symbol warns of strong crosswinds on the road ahead, typically on exposed bridges, embankments and moorland stretches. Gusts can push a vehicle sideways, and the effect is worst for motorcycles, caravans, high-sided vans and empty lorries. Hold the steering firmly, reduce speed and leave extra room when passing cyclists, riders or high-sided vehicles that may be blown off line. Being ready for a gust as you emerge from behind a bridge parapet or a lorry is a classic theory test hazard-awareness point.
