Warning signs

Light signals ahead

Light signals ahead at level crossing, airfield or bridge

What does this sign mean?

This sign warns of light signals ahead at a level crossing, airfield or opening bridge, rather than an ordinary traffic light junction. The signals show a steady amber followed by twin flashing red lights when the road is about to be closed. Slow down and be ready to stop, and never try to beat the signals once the amber shows. Recognising that flashing red lights mean stop and wait, in any of these settings, is a recurring theory test point.
