Warning signs

Level crossing with barrier or gate ahead

What does this sign mean?

A railway crossing protected by a barrier or gate is coming up, and the fence symbol distinguishes it from unprotected crossings. Most such crossings use a steady amber light followed by twin flashing red lights before the barriers come down. Stop when the amber or red lights show, never zigzag around half-barriers, and only drive on once the barriers are fully up and the lights are out. Level crossing procedure is heavily tested, including what to do if your vehicle breaks down on the crossing.
