Warning signs

Quayside or river bank

What does this sign mean?

This sign warns that the road runs alongside an unprotected quay, dock or river bank with no barrier to stop a vehicle entering the water. It is used in harbours, marinas and older dockside areas. Keep your speed low, stay well clear of the edge, and take particular care when reversing or manoeuvring where the drop is behind you. The sign appears in theory test questions about unusual hazards, where the point is simply to recognise what the symbol represents.
