Traffic signals
What does this sign mean?
The three-lamp symbol warns that traffic lights control the road ahead, typically where the signals are hidden by a bend, a crest or a queue. It gives you time to slow down and check the signal rather than arriving at speed. Approach ready to stop, and remember that a green light only means you may proceed if the road beyond is clear. Theory test questions use it to check you treat a warning of signals as a reason to reduce speed, not a promise that the lights will be green.
