Trams crossing ahead

Warning signs

Trams crossing ahead

What does this sign mean?

This sign warns that trams cross or run along the road ahead, and it is your cue to look for rails, signals and tram stops. It is used in cities with light rail networks such as Manchester, Sheffield, Croydon, Nottingham and Edinburgh, often where trams cross a road at an angle. Trams are quiet, cannot steer around you and take a long distance to stop, so never park where you would block the track and take care crossing wet rails. Tram questions appear regularly in the theory test because many candidates have never driven near a tramway.
