Road narrows on both sides

Warning signs

Road narrows on both sides

What does this sign mean?

Both edges of the carriageway close in ahead, so the road loses width on the left and the right at once. It is used at bridges, through villages and where a wide road passes a pinch point built to slow traffic. Reduce speed, hold back rather than drawing alongside another vehicle, and give way if oncoming traffic reaches the narrowing first. Candidates often mix this up with the single-sided version, so check whether the two sloping lines are symmetrical.
