Warning signs

Accompanied horses or ponies

What does this sign mean?

This sign warns that ridden horses or horse-drawn vehicles use the road ahead, often near a riding school, stables or a bridleway crossing. Horses are easily startled, and a rider may be a child or a novice with limited control. Pass slowly and widely, avoid revving the engine or sounding the horn, and be prepared to wait behind until there is a genuinely safe place to go by. The theory test expects you to know that patience and space, not a quick pass, are the correct response.
