Overhead electric cable

Overhead electric cable; plate indicates maximum height of vehicles which can pass safely

What does this sign mean?

This sign warns of overhead electric cables crossing the road, and the plate beneath gives the maximum safe height for vehicles passing under them. It is found near railway lines with overhead wires, tram routes and industrial sites. If you drive anything tall, such as a lorry, a tipper, a horsebox or a high-sided van, you must know your vehicle's height and stop rather than risk contact with the cables. The sign appears most often in the lorry and bus theory tests, but car candidates are still expected to recognise it and understand who it affects.
