Warning signs
Distance to give way line ahead
What does this sign mean?
This sign warns that you are approaching a junction where you must give way, and the plate figure is the distance to the give way line. It is used where the junction is poorly visible, so drivers get warning before the inverted triangle sign itself comes into view. Slow down early and plan your observations, because you may have to stop and let traffic on the main road go by before you can join it. It is a favourite test contrast with the stop line version: the same shape, a different marking ahead, and a different legal obligation when you get there.
