What does this sign mean?

The cow symbol warns that farm animals may be on the road ahead, usually where a herd crosses between fields or where the road runs through open grazing. It is most relevant around milking times and on unfenced upland roads. Slow right down, be ready to stop, and pass animals quietly without sounding the horn or revving, giving the person in charge room to control them. Where animals block the road entirely, the correct response tested in the theory test is to wait rather than to push through.
