One-way traffic

One-way traffic (note: compare circular ‘Ahead only’ sign

What does this sign mean?

This rectangular sign shows that traffic on the road ahead flows in one direction only, in the direction of the arrow. It is easy to confuse with the round blue ahead only sign, so remember that a rectangular sign gives information about the road while a circular one gives an order about your movement. In a one-way street you may use either lane to overtake and should choose your exit lane early. One-way street procedure, including where buses or cycles run against the flow in a contraflow lane, is a standard theory test area.
