Buses and cycles only

What does this sign mean?

The road or lane beyond this sign is reserved for buses and pedal cycles, and other traffic must not use it. Bus gates like these are found in town centres and on approaches to stations, and many are camera enforced. Do not follow a bus through, even briefly, unless a plate specifically permits your vehicle. Bus lane and bus gate restrictions come up often in the theory test, usually paired with questions about when other vehicles may use a bus lane.
