No vehicles over length shown

No vehicle or combination of vehicles over length shown

What does this sign mean?

Any vehicle, or combination of vehicle and trailer, longer than the figure shown must not use the road beyond this sign. Length restrictions protect tight corners, narrow streets and level crossings where a long vehicle could become stranded. Drivers must measure the whole combination, not just the towing vehicle, and take the signed alternative if it applies. This is mainly lorry and bus theory test material, but anyone towing should know the restriction applies to them too.
