No overtaking

What does this sign mean?

Overtaking is prohibited from this sign until an end-of-restriction sign or the end of the restricted section. It is used where sight lines are poor, on narrow stretches and on the approach to bends, bridges and junctions where the risk is highest. Stay behind the vehicle in front, however slow it is, and be patient rather than looking for a gap that the sign says does not exist. Overtaking prohibitions come up frequently in the theory test alongside double white lines, which carry their own legal restrictions.
