No vehicles over width shown

What does this sign mean?

Vehicles wider than the figure on the sign must not proceed, and the width is given in metric and imperial units. It is used at narrow bridges, gateways and streets where a wide vehicle would not fit or would damage the structure. Know the width of your vehicle including mirrors and any load, and divert before the restriction rather than trying it and getting stuck. Width and height restrictions together account for a good share of the sign questions in the lorry theory test.
