Keep left

Keep left (right if symbol reversed

What does this sign mean?

You must pass to the left of the sign, which is normally mounted on a bollard or island in the middle of the road; the reversed sign means keep right. It is used at central refuges, at the ends of central reservations and where traffic is split around an obstruction. Approach at a sensible speed and pass on the correct side rather than cutting across the island. The similar-looking sign that lets vehicles pass on either side has arrows pointing both ways, and telling the two apart is a common theory test question.
