Signs giving orders

Ahead only

What does this sign mean?

The blue circle with a straight upward arrow orders you to continue straight on, so turning left or right at the junction is not permitted. It is used where turns are banned to keep a busy route flowing, and also on the approach to some one-way systems. Stay in the through lane and do not attempt a turn even if a gap appears inviting. It is easily confused with the rectangular one-way traffic sign, and telling the two apart is a well-worn theory test question.
