Signs giving orders

No U-turns

What does this sign mean?

Turning to face the opposite direction is prohibited beyond this sign, typically on dual carriageways, at central reservation gaps and in one-way systems. The manoeuvre is banned where it would block traffic or where oncoming vehicles arrive too quickly for it to be done safely. Continue to a roundabout or junction where turning round is permitted and can be done in one movement. The theory test contrasts it with the no right turn sign, and also asks where a U-turn is unsafe even when it is legal.
