End of 20 mph zone

What does this sign mean?

This sign marks the end of a 20 mph zone and shows the limit that applies from that point onwards, commonly 30 mph. It is placed at the boundary of the zone, often where a residential area meets a through route. Do not accelerate before you reach the sign, and remember that the new limit is still a maximum rather than a target. Zone entry and exit signs are frequently paired in theory test questions to check you know a zone covers a whole area rather than a single road.
