Stop line for pedestrians at a level crossing

What does this road marking mean?

A line across a footway or path at a level crossing showing pedestrians where to wait clear of the railway. It performs the same job for people on foot that the vehicle stop line does for traffic, keeping them behind the danger zone while a train passes. At crossings with barriers it sits behind the gate, and at open crossings it marks the safe limit of approach. Never stand or wait beyond it, even if the track looks clear.
