What does this road marking mean?

Criss-cross yellow lines marking a junction that must be kept clear. You must not enter the box unless your exit road is clear, so that you can drive straight through without stopping inside it. The single exception is when you are turning right and are stopped only by oncoming traffic or by other vehicles waiting to turn right. Box junctions are placed where blocking the junction would gridlock traffic in the crossing direction.
