What does this road marking mean?

A double broken white line across your lane means give way to traffic on the road you are joining. You do not have to stop if the way is genuinely clear, which is what separates it from a stop line, but you must be ready to. The same marking is used on the approach to some mini-roundabouts. A triangle painted on the carriageway before it gives advance warning that the line is coming.
