Stop line at a Stop sign
Stop line at ‘Stop’ sign
What does this road marking mean?
This solid white line accompanies the octagonal Stop sign and marks the point at which you must bring the vehicle to a complete standstill. Unlike a give way line it is not conditional: you stop whether or not anything is coming. Only once you have stopped and looked may you move off, and the line marks the last place where you can do so safely. It appears where a driver's view into the major road is too poor for a rolling approach to be safe.
