Route for pedestrians

What does this sign mean?

This sign directs people on foot along a designated walking route, often away from the carriageway. Drivers see it where the route crosses the road or where a footpath emerges between buildings. Watch for pedestrians stepping out at these points, particularly children and anyone whose view is blocked by parked vehicles. The theory test treats pedestrians emerging from between parked cars as a classic developing hazard.
