Direction signs
Primary route forming part of a ring road
What does this sign mean?
Where a primary route runs around a town rather than through it, the sign shows the ring road symbol so you can follow it right round without needing to know local place names. It is used on the approach to and around urban ring roads and orbital routes. Following the ring road symbol is usually quicker than cutting through the centre, and it keeps you on roads designed for through traffic. Recognising the ring road symbol on a green sign is a straightforward but commonly tested piece of sign literacy.
