What does this sign mean?

The black diamond completes the set of four emergency diversion symbols used when a main road has to be closed. As with the others, the rule is to follow one symbol only, from the point where you are diverted until the point where you rejoin. Following the wrong shape will take you along a diversion meant for different traffic. Recognising these symbols as diversion markers, rather than decoration, is the entire theory test point.
