Advisory route for lorries

What does this sign mean?

This sign shows a route recommended for lorries, steering heavy vehicles away from unsuitable roads such as narrow streets, weak bridges and residential areas. It is advisory rather than compulsory, but ignoring it usually leads to a road that a large vehicle cannot comfortably negotiate. Lorry drivers should follow it, and other drivers can read it as a sign that heavy vehicles will be turning here. Advisory lorry routes appear in the lorry theory test alongside mandatory weight and width restrictions.
