Direction signs
Local route sign on the approach to a crossroads
On approaches to junctions
What does this sign mean?
White signs with a black border direct you along non-primary local roads, and this one shows a crossroads ahead in map form. The routes named on it are generally smaller roads through villages and suburbs rather than fast through routes. Read it in good time and pick your lane before the junction, because local junctions often arrive with little warning. The white-and-black colour scheme is what tells you the road is a local one, a distinction the theory test checks directly.
