Motorway service area

Motorway service area sign showing the operator’s name

What does this sign mean?

This sign gives advance notice of a motorway service area and shows the operator's name and usually the distance. Services are the only place on a motorway where you can legally stop for a rest, fuel or food. Plan to stop at least every two hours on a long journey, and pull in earlier if you feel drowsy rather than pressing on to the next one. Tiredness and the two-hour break guidance are among the most consistently tested points in the theory test.
