Advance warning of restriction or prohibition ahead

What does this sign mean?

This sign gives advance notice of a restriction or prohibition further along the road, such as a weight, width or height limit. Its purpose is to let drivers of affected vehicles turn off before they reach a point where turning round is difficult or impossible. If the restriction applies to you, take the alternative route at the next opportunity rather than continuing and hoping. For lorry and bus drivers this early warning is the difference between a diversion and a reversing manoeuvre on a narrow road.
