Traffic has priority over oncoming vehicles

What does this sign mean?

Where the road narrows to a single lane, this sign tells you that you have priority and oncoming drivers must wait. It is used at pinch points, narrow bridges and traffic calming build-outs. Even with priority, approach at a speed that lets you stop, because the driver coming the other way may not have seen their sign or may already be committed. Its red and white counterpart, which orders you to give way, is the standard contrast in theory test questions on narrow roads.
