Signals by authorised persons
School crossing patrol: all vehicles stop
All vehicles must stop
What does this signal mean?
The patrol stands in the road holding the Stop for children sign square on to traffic, and you must stop. The requirement is legal, not a courtesy, and it applies to traffic in both directions. Remain stopped until the patrol and every child are clear of the carriageway and the sign has been lowered. Never wave children across yourself, since another vehicle may not have stopped.
