End marker

What does this vehicle marking mean?

A red and white marker fixed to the end of a projecting load, showing where it actually finishes. Following too closely behind one is a particular risk because the load may end well behind the vehicle's lights. At night the marker is the only reliable indication of where the vehicle really ends. Hang back far enough to see the marker clearly before you consider overtaking.
