Signals to other road users
Reversing lights
I intend to reverse
What does this signal mean?
White reversing lights show that a driver has selected reverse gear and intends to reverse. As a pedestrian you should never cross behind a vehicle showing them, and as a driver you should assume nobody has noticed yours. Reversing lights indicate intention rather than movement, so the vehicle may be stationary for some time before it moves. Take extra care where children may be behind the vehicle and out of sight.
