Signals to other road users
Hazard warning lights
I am temporarily obstructing traffic or warning of a hazard or obstruction ahead (see Rule 116)
What does this signal mean?
Hazard warning lights show that a vehicle is temporarily obstructing traffic or warning of a hazard or obstruction ahead. They may be used while your vehicle is stationary, and on a motorway or unrestricted dual carriageway you may also use them briefly while moving to warn following traffic of a hazard or queue ahead. They must never be used as an excuse for parking illegally, even for a moment. Switch them off once the warning has served its purpose.
