Cyclist arm signal: turning left

I intend to move in to the left or turn left

What does this signal mean?

A cyclist extends the left arm horizontally to show an intention to move in to the left or turn left. Cycles have no indicators, so the arm signal is the only signal available and it has to be given while steering one-handed. That means it may be brief, or dropped entirely if the rider needs both hands for a pothole or a gust of wind. Give a signalling cyclist room and time rather than expecting the signal to be held.
