Road works signs

Road works

What does this sign mean?

This is the standard road works warning, telling you that work is taking place on or beside the carriageway ahead. Look beyond it for further signs giving specific instructions on lanes, speed limits and diversions. Slow down, increase your following distance and be ready for a lane to close or for workers to be close to passing traffic. The Highway Code asks drivers to obey every sign at road works and to be patient with the people working there, and the theory test follows the same line.
