Temporary hazard at road works

What does this sign mean?

This sign warns of a specific temporary hazard within a set of road works, with a plate giving the detail where one is needed. Hazards can include a raised or sunken surface, exposed ironwork, loose material or a temporary change of alignment. Reduce speed, keep both hands on the wheel and avoid sudden steering, particularly on two wheels where a poor surface is far more serious. Temporary hazards are a common theory test subject because the risk is highest for motorcyclists and cyclists.
