Loose chippings

What does this sign mean?

This sign warns that loose stone chippings are on the road surface, usually after resurfacing or surface dressing. Chippings reduce grip and can be thrown up by tyres, damaging paintwork and windscreens and endangering riders and pedestrians. Slow down well below the normal limit, keep a much bigger gap to the vehicle in front, and avoid harsh braking or acceleration. The combination of poor grip and flying debris makes this a frequently tested hazard for motorcyclists in particular.
